This extension kit will improve fit of the Kaibab Cradle on some mountain bikes, by moving the arms of the cradle 9mm to each side. It consists of four machined spacers and longer bolts for mounting the cradle to the headset spacer. It increases the distance between the cradle arms from 40mm to 58mm.
This kit has two uses: One is to shift the harness arms out for more cable clearance. This is very bike-dependent and hard to describe in words, but some drop bar bikes with internal routing will benefit.
The other use is on bikes with stems that are short (<50mm) and wide (>40mm). Most bikepacking bikes aren't sold with such stems, but they are becoming common in the world of trail and enduro bikes and those boundaries are sometimes blurred.
The clearance between the arms of the Kaibab is 40mm without the kit, which is enough for most stems, including some short 40mm stems. The extension kit increases the clearance to 58mm, which is wide enough for the popular Burgtec Enduro MK3 stem, which is the widest one we could find in our garages and local bike shops.
