Custom fabric Designing
There are a couple of things to understand about how our printing process works:
We print in-house using dye sublimation printing. There is no added lead time for printed orders once the design is complete.
We can only print onto our EPL150 fabric. Dye sublimation can't lighten fabrics, it only darkens. So we have to start with white and print the entire design including any background color. We had EPL150 custom-made for this purpose. We cannot print a design on top of our solid color fabrics or onto Ultra fabrics.
Print limitations: The only things we can't print are very bright fluorescent colors, super dark black, and some specific colors in the teal/turquoise spectrum.
We also reserve the right to refuse custom print requests if we deem them offensive or problematic for any other reason. This happens very rarely, but we did have someone ask for the confederate flag once.
We can work on these in-house. If you don't need an exact color match to anything, let us know the rough color(s) you desire and we'll send you a mockup. This generally costs $20.
If you need an exact color match, then we'll generate a range of potential colors and send you physical samples in the mail to compare. We charge $30 for this service. Note that colors in the teal spectrum are very difficult to color match and our printing equipment may not be able to reproduce them. Similarly, we can't print fluorescent colors.
We recommend a color gradient because they look great and with a gradient it's less important to get an exact color match to your bike, especially if you're trying to match frame highlights.
We can also customize the colors on our topo prints!
You can find a seamless repeating design that we would purchase the rights to and use for your bag. The best site we've found for this is called Creative Market:
https://creativemarket.com/
Search for what you want and then select the "Tileable" button on the left side to make sure it's a repeating pattern. This usually costs a flat fee of $20-30 that doesn't change with how many bags you order. In most cases it's better for us to purchase the license and roll it into the print fee - we get volume discounts on our Creative Market account.
You can create your own design! In this case, we would send you an SVG template to work with. If you're ordering a frame bag, we have templates for common bikes on file, otherwise we'll need a PandaVision photo:
We cannot violate any copyright claims. However, once artwork has become public domain, it is available for use!
Please email us your ideas! With the help of our Rogue Panda team, we can brainstorm together!
Why don't we use Dyneema Composite Fabric?
We won't pretend it's the best fabric out there just because it's trendy.
We can make you a bag with Dyneema composite fabric as a special order. But here are a few things to consider before ordering a DCF bag:
- DCF uses dyneema as a reinforcement grid, rather than for abrasion resistance and tear strength. Abrasion and tearing is how real-life failures occur.
- DCF has a fragile waterproof layer compared to Ecopak or Xpac, and will lose its waterproofness over time
- DCF is touted as being "stronger than steel", but that's in tensile strength only, and all of our fabrics have more than sufficient tensile strength for bikepacking use
- Consider Ultra 200X instead - it has a similar weight to DCF but uses Ultra PE fibers in a smarter way to provide added abrasion resistance and tear strength.
